Sparkly Winklepickers and Salt and Pepper Squid

I have no writing news at all this week, so instead I’m continuing with my impression of  Woman With a Social Life. On Thursday I achieved two long time wishes by going to Glasgow. (Best be careful what I say, coming from Edinburgh.)

First I got to eat in Rogano, which was excellent; wonderful Art Deco place and delicious squid among other things. Second, and even better, I got to see Roxy Music, who I’ve loved for years, live. They played lots of wonderful and slightly obscure early tracks and were in terrific form. They may not be in the first flush of youth any more, but they’ve certainly still got what it takes. I particularly loved Phil Manzanera’s fabulous sparkly winklepickers!

I may not have been writing much this week, but I’ve still been glued to a book – in this case ‘Bad Science’ by Ben Goldacre. I genuinely can’t put it down. It’s an impassioned rant against psuedoscience like Brain Gym, Homeopathy and dodgy nutritional supplements. I feel quite evangelical about it, and will be nagging all my friends and colleagues to read it too. Go out and buy a copy!
