Libraries matter, so come and do something!

If it wasn’t for Libraries I wouldn’t be here writing this. I come from a family of avid readers, but there was no way my parents could have afforded to feed my childhood book habit. I could easily get through half a dozen books a week back then, and the Library was a door to anywhere, anything, everything. You can never be bored if you’ve got the right book and your imagination.

Libraries still matter enormously, and so do Librarians, who are not just people who scan your book, but book experts who decide on which wonderful books are on the shelves, and can tell you what else you’ll like once you’ve read your way through all the books you think you’ll like. There are proposals to make major cuts to Library funding as part of the Government’s spending cuts.

You can support Libraries and Librarians by taking part in a protest on Saturday 5th February. Come to the Scottish Parliament between 10 and 11am and join lots of Children’s Authors and Illustrators. Make your voice heard and keep your Library safe!
