20th December: Hooray, I’m On Holiday!

imagesIt’s the end of term at last (mind you, I’ve only been back for 4 weeks after the hip operation, so I shouldn’t complain.) Sighs of relief all round… I sometimes think the pupils don’t realise that we look forward to the holidays too. So, a school related quote today by that trusty writer Anonymous:  ‘The brain is a wonderful organ; it starts working the moment you get up in the morning, and does not stop until you get to school.’

From the fire in my bookshelves I give you today The Riddle-Master of Hed, a triple-decker fantasy by Patricia McKillip, an American author who isn’t as well known in the UK as she deserves. I’m including all three books, on the grounds that you can get them in one chunky volume. McKillip creates great characters and keeps you locked into their stories in the extraordinarily vivid worlds she creates. Well worth seeking out, as are her other novels.
