December 21st: Not The End Of The World Again….

imagesCAVR78FEOK, I seem to have got the date wrong. I thought Armageddon was supposed to arrive on the 12th, but apparently it’s today. Not. Among the stories in the press, I am particularly taken by the fact that you can buy a package trip to apocalypse ‘ground zero’…. with return flights. Marvellous.

I’ve chosen the picture today because it’s such an unlikely juxtaposition. To go with it, a quote from my old friend Anonymous: ‘Cats are smarter than dogs. You can’t make eight cats pull a sled through the snow.’

Today’s book choice is The Secret History by Donna Tartt, which I can only describe as a Greek Tragedy set in an Ivy League college. It’s a stunning first novel, which I’ve read again and again with the same level of excitement. Her second book  – The Little Friend – is pretty special too: a sort of homage to To Kill A Mockingbird.
