Reading as a competitive sport…

KLQ logoI had a great afternoon at the North East England heat of the Kids Lit Quiz in Newcastle earlier in the week. If you don’t know what this is, then have a look at the website immediately! It’s the most fantastic competition and is going from strength to strength. There were 34 teams in the heat, displaying a terrific breadth of knowledge of children’s books. I got to join in the fun by forming a team with Steve from Seven Stories (and if you don’t know what this is, follow the link now) – turns out we both have quite a competitive streak…

Many thanks to everyone at Gosforth Middle School, and especially Trevor, Diane and the wonderful Wayne Mills, who single-handedly invented the whole fantastic idea. Congratulations to the winners, St Joseph’s Middle School, and good luck to everyone in the UK final in Oxford on December 4th.
