Coming up for air…

imagesAt last, I’ve made it through the planning, marking, parents’ nights and – oh, yes – the teaching, and the finishing post for the term is now in sight. Phew. It seems to have been a long time coming.

I’ve been watching the reports today about Tim Peake blasting into space, and have been reminded what an enthralling part of my childhood the Apollo moon missions were. My father took huge interest in the whole project and as a result we would always be glued to the TV whenever anything was happening. It’s great to see something like the same level of interest now in the reports from the Science Museum and from primary schools, including the one Tim Peake attended. It’s about time small children dreamed of being astronauts again. This and Star Wars should do it between them.

As a first step, you can find out when the space station is visible in the night sky if you follow this link. Go out and try on the next clear night. It’s so bright that it’s pretty easy to see.
